The strong point: The rooms. 9.5/10

The 200 rooms (including 109 sea side, 16 suites and one apartment) display their seaside palette. Blue, beige, they contain in their soul this revitalizing essential. We enter here in the room of which we dream when we evoke a chic stay in La Baule. View of the sea, luminous as the sky, and absolutely distinguished in its restful outline. The blue carpet speckled with white dashes accommodates an immemorial comfortable bed, with a duvet that is heavy on the body but light as soon as you lift it (a marvel…) and Louis XVI-style furniture blends into the space. On the hot water table, a page on the history of the place. Above a console, the television framed like a painting blends into the decor without damaging it, as well as the beautiful black and white photos featuring holidaymakers discovering the joys of swimming. The mini-bar and the kettle are hidden behind cupboard doors whose openwork wood placed on mirrors recalls both beautiful beach huts and transforms the dotted lines of the carpet into exclamation marks. Inevitably, the imagination is activated in places of rest! She ignites when faced with the brilliance of the flawless marble bathroom. It’s really superb, very well maintained, and finished brand new. The walk-in shower diffuses almost silky water under the effect of Diane Barrière courtesy products. The detangler has the scent of bath salts and the bar soap sprays a record of soft, whipped cream lather. The rectangular basin pays homage to the mirror which overhangs it. Stunning !

First impression: 9/10

First, the umbrella pines. Because in La Baule, they are the guarantors of Epinal’s image. And then the rolling sea, with the apprehension that these busy beaches always bring with them. This is where you enter the Hôtel Barrière Hermitage, a legendary hotel in this seaside resort, dating from the 19th century. Is it the Atlantic that breathes appeasement as soon as you cross the gate? Or rather the know-how to receive. “Elegance goes to pleasure like the party goes to life”. Who says elegance says welcome, and wonder in front of the sumptuous decor. The two are immediately united in this sand-coloured lobby, whose art-deco façade has already won us over. The modern is intertwined with the old and meets the grandiose between gilding and marble: benches invite you to contemplate a huge chandelier that devours the ceiling without devouring it. The staircase with its golden banister and black and white striped carpet takes us musically, that is to say calmly, upstairs, whose white doors light up the navy floors. Beautiful photos of actors sign certain places. Here, Yves Montand and Simone Signoret sitting on the beach watch us pass…

The Spa : 9/10

The Diane Barrière spa awaits you in a beautiful setting for Biologique Recherche or Saint Barth treatments. There is a superb fitness room with a beautiful view of the swimming pool, real light and plenty of space between the machines, as well as a sauna and a hammam.

On the treatment side, zoom on the Signature Barrière Treatment, a tailor-made treatment for the body waiting for relaxation and energy. The cabin is beautiful, padded in the style of bedrooms, which creates a calm in itself. Magnificent therefore, like the entire floor reserved for treatments. And the music immediately takes you elsewhere. Just before, you suggest the painful areas or those on which you want the masseuse to insist. With an essential oil of Neroli, it quickly gets rid of your tensions.

Barrier Signature treatment, 55′, 145 euros.

The table: 8/10

Chef Pierrick Trippier is in charge of both restaurants.

That of the beach, Eden Beach, and that of La Terrasse.

The sea is wonderful, but seen from a deckchair (price of the mattress for the day: 28 euros) it’s even better. At the beach ofEden Beach, located just in front of the hotel, you can take full advantage of the joys of the sea while resting. You don’t need to move too far to have lunch from a cuisine very made in the ocean, with dishes to share: the seafood platter, the sea bass in a salt crust cut up in the dining room, the lobster paella.

HAS The terrace Adjoining the swimming pool and the shade of its pines, the menu is a joyful stopover where, at noon, the freshest and most gourmet desires rub shoulders: vegetarian Poke-Bowl, Caesar salad with chicken, grilled Asparagus, Club Sandwich, Burgers, fish and chips, as well as meats cooked over a wood fire, such as beef entrecotes.

In the evening, the terrace gives way to a more chic atmosphere and a menu focused on seafood and local produce.

Try the experience… Du Studio by Petit Vip: 9/10

A children’s club included in the price of the room (except for the evening) and which is not just a place offering a few spaces and games. Here, the little VIPs are truly cared for and enchanted. They do activities outside, on the beach, at the swimming pool, we sing, we dance, we mime, we cook, we make kites, we record music videos… And we come home with our heads full of memories. “Photo-workshop”, “Koh-Lantah challenge”, “I create my comic strip”, just reading the program, the children’s eyes shine and the qualified guides are adorable.

The number: 1902.

This is a very fine date for the piano present in the “Royal Suite” of the Hermitage. An exceptional suite of 75m2 with terrace and hot tub.

We came across… Winston Churchill, the Agha Khan, Sacha Guitry, Aristotle Onassis, Maurice Chevalier…

The crush : The buffet breakfast and its carts by theme, its homemade cookies and its chouquettes… And its beautiful setting whose walls you have to admire while remembering the atmospheres of films of yesteryear.

Instagram spot: The swimming pool!

For this mythical and magnificent view of the facade of the hotel on one side and the green jungle of palm trees and pines, as soon as you look up from the heated pool…

We would like to change…

The pool locker room. We would like it to be as shiny as the toilets on the ground floor adjoining the Kid’s Club!

We would like to leave with…

Saint Barth body care products, including marine, tonic and vanilla fragrances, undoubtedly prolong the holidays…
