Mental HealthSix ways to take care of yourself every day

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Here are some ideas to do you good without going to the Caribbean.

Self-care is the act of taking care of oneself. It's about everything you can do to stay physically, mentally and spiritually healthy.

Doing good is often associated with a shopping spree, a manicure or long hours spent in front of Netflix. All of this is certainly a source of pleasure, but it is not the most sustainable way to invest in your mental well-being. It is better to opt for the following six proposals.

1. Take care of your body

Taken by the daily stress, it is easy to run out of time to eat balanced meals, to start watching an episode of his favorite series after midnight, when the alarm clock rings at seven o’clock the next morning, or to run out of energy to go to the gym. However, it is crucial to take care of your body. Here are some tips on how to do good to your body without too much effort:

  • On weekends, systematically devote an hour to cutting vegetables and pre-cooking starchy foods such as rice or quinoa. Thanks to batch cooking, preparing a balanced dinner during the week will become child’s play.

  • Take the time to chew your food well.

  • Motivate yourself to exercise at least once a week.

  • Practice breathing exercises to sleep well.

Preparing meals in advance during the weekend saves as much time as possible during the week.

2. Make time for yourself

Selfcare is about taking care of yourself and doing good for yourself in the same way as you do for others. It is therefore necessary to plan time slots just for yourself in your schedule. Meditating, taking a hot bath, reading on the sofa or searching for new music: any activity is good as long as it feels good and recharges the batteries. To make it easier when it comes to declining an invitation, it is better to replace the sentence: “Sorry, but I only want to snuggle up in my bed” by “Sorry ), but I already have an appointment.

3. Put your cell phone aside

Taking care of yourself also means giving space to your thoughts and freeing yourself from everyday distractions from time to time. Because, we all spend hours in bed surfing social networks before starting the day. Instagram and the like immerse us in the lives of other people, who are often completely foreign to us, and create an addiction. Instead of concentrating on a world that is far from its own reality, it is better to listen to what is going on inside oneself.

4. Accomplish, point by point, his list of tasks

Getting rid of daily chores one by one is also a way to feel good. Sorting out paperwork, cleaning up or making that infamous doctor’s appointment that you’ve been putting off for weeks are some of the unpleasant tasks that need to be done on a regular basis.

5. Learn to set limits

Lack of time for oneself can also be due to the fact that one systematically says “yes” to everything and everyone. Except that in the end, we remain ourselves on the floor. In addition, others will depend more and more on you and will regularly offload their tasks and problems onto you, since they know that you will take care of them for them. So you have to allow yourself to say “no” to things you don’t want to do, for which you are not paid enough or for which you are forced to put your own tasks aside or cancel an appointment.

6. Do away with perfectionism

The search for perfection is a quality. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do the best job you have been given. It can also be a source of motivation. But when perfectionism is exaggerated, it generates stress, anxiety and can, in the worst case, lead to mental illness. In most cases, doing well is already more than enough in itself. Moreover, it is impossible to complete every task perfectly. It is up to everyone to determine at what level it is really necessary to be a perfectionist.
