The organizers of the show in-cosmetics Asia — held in Bangkok from November 1-3, 2022 — revealed the winners of the Innovation Zone and Spotlight On Formulation Awards. These awards recognize companies that have responded to industry needs, demonstrated innovation and focused on sustainability.
Innovation Zone: Active Ingredient Award
In the “Innovation Zone – active ingredient” category, it is Mibelle Biochemistry which won gold for its aromatic resin NovoRetin. A true plant alternative to retinol, it has been recognized for its powerful anti-aging effects and its exceptional benefits on acne-prone skin. Made with mastic, an aromatic resin from the bark of Pistacia lentiscus, a tree that grows on the Greek island of Chios, NovoRetin increases the amount of retinoic acid naturally present in the skin, resulting in effects similar to retinol.
Vytrus Biotech won the Silver Award for Elaya Renova – The Hair Tensegrist by Vytrus Biotech – a 100% natural active ingredient for hair and scalp care.
In addition, two Bronze Awards were awarded:
BASF was recognized for its Postbiolift postbiotic technology, which promotes healthy aging. It contains metabolites from the fermentation of Lactobacillus crispatus, which contribute to more elastic skin, a smoother appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and an even complexion.
Cellicon Lab also won the Bronze Award for its DST-DX Targeted Highlighter. Designed to target melanocytes, the ingredient contains one of the strongest tyrosinase inhibitors.
Innovation Zone: Functional Ingredient Award
As for the functional ingredients, Ashland Singapore received the gold medal for its Antaron soy glyceride: a film-forming agent of natural origin, water-resistant and biodegradable, it is also an SPF booster for sunscreen formulations, it also reduces the transfer for makeup products.
In parallel, Global Bioenergies won the Silver Award for its Isonaturane 12 – the brand corresponding to its naturally occurring isododecane. Sharon Laboratories also won a Silver Award for its broad-spectrum preservative blend, Sharomix 699.
The Bronze Award winners are Hallstar for its natural multifunctional emollient SolaPure Glo which improves sun protection performance, and Jan Dekker for Dekamulen Power’Feel, an emulsifier derived from natural cellulose.
Spotlight On: Formulation Award
The event also rewarded the best ingredient formulations from over 30 entries.
Gold Award Winner, DKSH was awarded for its Baby One More Time Face Cleansing Powder. Designed to work as part of a personal skincare ritual, it helps achieve a rejuvenated complexion and a “fresh, lively, luminous and bouncy face”.
Innovacos won the Spotlight On Awards Silver Award for its Cleaning Oil to Milk based on PolyAquol-2W, a patented polyglycerol-based O/W self-emulsifier (it is both naturally derived and Cosmos approved). It has broad formulation compatibility while providing emulsions with a unique touch.
Finally, Evonik was awarded the Bronze Spotlight On Award for its Winter Time Regeneration Lotion-Vitamin D3 (MM 432/4) with TEGO Sterol 7-DHC V designed to help regenerate sun-stressed skin during the winter months of summer.
